East Atlanta

East Atlanta Village has been tagged “Atlanta’s Hippest Hood”, “the epitome of cool”, and “a neighborhood’s neighborhood.” All these underscore what you can expect from this latest lifestyle mecca located just a few minutes from Downtown Atlanta.

East Atlanta Village is a highly walkable community with a blossoming independent business sector. It’s home to popular music venues, an eclectic collection of restaurants, happening bars, and local shops. The sidewalks are adorned by colorful storefronts and murals created by local artists.

The neighborhood is also highly family-friendly, with tranquil residential areas, a gorgeous park, a recreation center, and a public library. The community is active and close-knit, with residents getting together for various activities and festivities throughout the year.

History of East Atlanta Village

Originally inhabited by Native Americans, East Atlanta was home to large plantations and small farms in the early 1800s. During the Civil War, the area was on the frontline of the famous Battle of Atlanta.

In the early 1900s, the introduction of streetcars that took passengers to and from Atlanta and its suburbs, including East Atlanta, led to significant economic progress. In 1909, East Atlanta was annexed as a neighborhood of the City of Atlanta.

The community experienced difficulties in the 1960s when racial integration for housing led to depressed real estate values. However, the neighborhood remained stable with many of its core residents choosing to remain here.

In 1981, the East Atlanta Community Association was founded. Since then, there have been remarkable improvements in various aspects of the community, transforming it to the hip and cool destination it is today.
